Highland Park - Confirming what many families and businesses already knew, the Illinois Department of Employment Security announced late last week that unemployment in the Chicago area rose to 10.2% from 9.3% just a year ago. These figures coincide with our statewide employment picture in which unemployment rose from 9.0% to 9.8%. This grim situation represents the inevitable outcome of the business-averse policies put in place by Governor Pat Quinn, Speaker Mike Madigan and Senate President John Cullerton.
State Senate candidate Arie Friedman remarked, “Even as the national economy shows signs of stirring to life, Springfield politicians are hurting Illinois families. High taxes, out-of-control spending, endless borrowing and punitive regulations have made our state unfriendly to job creators. Our neighboring states are all putting their financial houses in order. And it's paying off for them. It's time for Illinois to get serious about cutting the spending and borrowing that is chasing jobs and job creators from our state.”
Government in Illinois needs a complete makeover if we ever hope to give our children a prosperous future. It is time for us to hold every politician at every level of government accountable for mismanagement and excess. We no longer have the luxury of promoting the same tired brand of career politicians to the General Assembly. To turn things around, we need to send a new generation of public servant to Springfield. What this state needs are legislators with real world experience and a commitment to putting the needs of the people first.
